In 1993, Dr. Chen graduated with honors (Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society) from the Johns Hopkins University, with a major in bioengineering (BS). His research focus at Johns Hopkins was on bioinstrumentation, modeling of the heart arrhythmias, and the timing of defibrillation. His work was published in a national journal.

After Johns Hopkins, Dr. Chen went on to the University of Pennsylvania to obtain his Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD). While going through the dental program, Dr. Chen also conducted research that led to publication and presentation in national meetings. He graduated as one of the top students in his dental class and was inducted into the OKU dental honor society, he went on to the orthodontic residency program at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) where he received his orthodontic certification and master’s degree in oral biology.

Combining his education with his bioengineering background, Dr. Chen has designed orthodontic treatment strategies that are very effective and minimized patients’ discomfort.

He has a passion to invent, study, design, and innovate orthodontic biomechanical strategies to achieve clinical excellence and efficiency and how orthodontic treatment can bring tremendous changes to patients’ smiles. He shares his knowledge with the dental community through workshops and seminars and is a certified California State Dental Continuing Education provider.
